Quentin Tarantino on Joker 2: It's like the Joker himself gave the middle finger to Hollywood

"Joker 2" directed by Todd Phillips has failed both in terms of reputation and box office. Another famous director Quentin Tarantino recently expressed some support for the film, but his reason was not to say how good the film was, but to think that it was like a middle finger to the film studio behind it, Warner Bros.

During a podcast, Quentin revealed that he watched the movie in a nearly empty IMAX theater and couldn't stop laughing while watching it. He said: "I thought it was funny. I know I laughed at scenes that other people wouldn't laugh at."

He went on to compare director Phillips to the Joker himself: "The Joker directed this movie. The whole concept, even the way he squandered the studio's money - he spent it like the Joker himself... It's his middle finger to moviegoers, his middle finger to Hollywood, his middle finger to anyone who owns stock in DC and Warner Bros."

Tarantino also said he saw influences from his earlier work, 1994's Natural Born Killers, in the film. "While the first Joker was inspired by Taxi Driver, this movie seems to be inspired by Natural Born Killers, which I wrote," she said.

“This is my dream Natural Born Killers. As the guy who created Mickey and Mallory, I love the way they used them… I love the direction he took. I mean, this whole movie is just Mickey Knox’s dream.”

As for whether the movie is really a statement of the director on Hollywood and superhero movies as Quentin said, we don't know. Quentin himself and his works have many controversies, but at least they have never failed so badly at the box office.

Joker 2 is expected to lose at least $150 million, which is also reflected in the strategy of the production company: less than a month after its release, the film was released in digital version yesterday (October 29), and is scheduled to be released in 4K and Blu-ray versions on December 17.
