Paramount+ releases trailer for the documentary-style esports spoof comedy Players

Players, a mockumentary about a fictional professional League of Legends team trying to win its first world championship, was first announced in 2021 as the next series from the acclaimed director of American Mad, and today Paramount+ released the first trailer for the show.

Episode preview:

Plot summary:

Creamcheese is the top player on Team Fugitive, a (fictional) LCS North American pro team that has been to Worlds multiple times but never quite won the grand prize. Now, with the 27-year-old superstar aging, Fugitive signs Organizm, a 10-year-younger prodigy positioned as the new face of the team and professional League of Legends as a whole. Conflict ensues almost immediately: Creamcheese displays ugly insecurities, while Organizm struggles under the overwhelming pressure of expectations.

Previously, the official "Players" said that Riot, the developer of "League of Legends", would assist in the filming. In the trailer, several real-life teams, such as Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses, appeared, providing some real color to this obviously absurd drama. The e-sports documentary producer Gbay99 also said on Twitter that he had participated in the behind-the-scenes work of the series and "made great efforts" to ensure that the series could accurately represent the professional "League of Legends" North American e-sports circle in the past few years.

"Players" will officially premiere on the Paramount+ platform on June 16.
