Three action film directors Gareth Evans, Michael Bay and Patrick Hughes (The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, The Hitman's Bodyguard, The Expendables 3) will team up with Netflix to remake Gareth Evans' action film The Raid. According to Deadline, Patrick Hughes will direct the new version of "The Raid" movie, Michael Bay and his film company XYZ Films will be responsible for production, Evans will serve as producer and co-writer with James Beaufort. The new film is set in the "Badlands" area of Philadelphia, USA, located in the north and northeast of Philadelphia, which has long been affected by drug violence. The original "Raid" movie tells the story of an elite Indonesian SWAT team trapped in an apartment building by a brutal crime lord, but Evans' version of "The Raid" will tell the story of an undercover DEA agent who finds a major drug lord through a drug cartel informant. The producers said: "We are very excited about Patrick's unique vision for this film. This is a unique and original work that promises to pay great respect to the source material while also bringing a fresh approach and perspective that will carve its own path in action films." The Raid remake will be the first collaboration between Michael Bay and Patrick Hughes, who previously directed The Expendables 3 and two of The Hitman's Bodyguard films starring Ryan Reynolds. In addition to directing five live-action Transformers films, Michael Bay also directed 1996's The Rock and 2003's Bad Boys for Life. The original "The Raid" film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in Canada in 2011 and quickly became a favorite among action movie fans. After its huge success, a sequel was released in 2014. |
