According to the news released by Tencent's official WeChat account, the Tencent266 encoder newly developed by the Tencent team recently won the first place in the 2021 MSU World Video Encoder Competition. According to Tencent, with this encoder, you will see clearer and smoother videos at the same traffic rate, saving about 1/3 of the traffic cost. At present, the latest video codec standard is H.266/VVC, and its first version was completed in July 2020. According to the new standard, the video compression rate will be increased by about 50%. For example, under the previous version of the standard, a 1GB movie will become about 500MB, but the picture quality remains the same. Tencent said that its newly developed Tencent266 encoder is based on the H.266/VVC standard and has internationally leading performance. Compared with the x265 encoder used as the benchmark, Tencent266 can save 38% of the bit rate, thereby significantly reducing bandwidth and storage costs. Tencent also said that in January this year, Tencent had optimized the Tencent266 decoder to cover all platforms. At present, the transcoding and related media processing applications under Tencent Cloud Audio and Video already support the H.266/VVC standard, and players and other products support H.266/VVC decoding. |
