The director of "Suicide Squad" doesn't mind streaming: The movie survived until now because of TV

The DC superhero movie "The Suicide Squad" was released simultaneously in North American theaters and on the streaming media HBO Max on August 6. Foreign media estimated that the film's box office in its first weekend was around 25 million US dollars, which is quite a gap from the 2016 version of "Suicide Squad" of 133 million US dollars.

In addition to the epidemic and the R rating, the release of streaming media is also considered to be the reason for the decline in box office. In response, director James Gunn said that he did not mind streaming media. He even said that the film can survive until now because of the existence of television (streaming media).

"I really don't care so much (simultaneous streaming), I only care about the projects in front of me. "The Suicide Squad" was indeed built for the big screen at the beginning, but I think it will be good on TV. Movies can survive to this day not because they can only be seen in theaters, but because they can be seen on TV. "Jaws" has become a classic not because people only watch it in theaters. I have never seen "Jaws" in a theater, but it is still one of my favorite movies."

"Filming the series "Peacemaker" allowed me to look at the two media of television and the big screen more equally. In fact, I feel more comfortable with the production of the series because I have more time to focus on the character and there is no pressure to change the scene immediately. Of course, I don't want the cinema to die. I don't know if the cinema will die. Who knows what will happen next.

"We are still in the pandemic, because many people don't want to get vaccinated, and they should. I just hope that there won't be another major outbreak in the U.S. this year, but if there is, no one can predict the future. I care a little bit, because I hope everyone can go to the cinema to watch movies. But if they don't want to go to the cinema, I won't commit suicide by slitting my wrists. I don't care that much."
