Disney+ subscribers reach 116 million, to be launched in Hong Kong and Taiwan by the end of the year

According to foreign media reports, Disney Pictures announced that its streaming platform Disney+ will be launched in South Korea, Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan in November this year, further expanding its Asia-Pacific business. According to relevant forecasts, these three markets are expected to gain nearly 5 million subscribers and $330 million in revenue for Disney+ by the end of 2022.

Currently, Disney+ has been launched in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Singapore in the Asia-Pacific region. The Disney streaming media launched in India, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand is called Disney+ Hotstar.

According to statistics, as of the third fiscal quarter on July 3, Disney+ had 116 million subscribers worldwide, double the 58 million a year ago, exceeding Wall Street analysts' expectations and outpacing competitors such as Netflix. In the most recent quarter, Disney+ added 12 million new subscribers, and plans to have 240 million to 260 million subscribers worldwide by the end of 2024, five years after Disney+ was launched.

In addition to Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu also maintained strong growth, with ESPN+ subscribers reaching 14.9 million and Hulu at 42.8 million. Currently, the total number of global subscribers for Disney's streaming business, including the three, is close to 174 million.
