Sci-fi film sequel "Chronicles 2" is in production and will use a female protagonist

20th Century Studios is developing a sequel to Chronicle, which will be set ten years after the events of the first film and will feature a female protagonist.

In an interview, producer John Davis recalled his work, saying that the first "Chronicle" in 2012 was "one of the highest-returning movies" he had. He later confirmed that a sequel to the film is in production, which will revolve around multiple female characters and tell the story as the "next generation" of superpowers.

"We're currently working on Chronicles 2, which I think is going to be a great movie," Davis revealed. "We're going to tell the story in a different way in this movie: We're going to tell it from a female point of view. It's been 10 years since the events of the first movie, and there's been a lot of news coverage, both true and false, and some cover-ups of the truth."

"What's even more interesting is that a new generation of people who have gained power have fallen again. These young girls have just graduated from college, they have gained abilities and are starting their own journeys. The audience will be able to see the latest and most interesting storylines then."

The first film was released in 2012, starring Dane DeHaan, Michael B. Jordan and Alex Russell as three high school students who suddenly gain powerful abilities beyond their own cognition. The three gradually master these abilities and use them, but their lives gradually get out of control and their dark side begins to emerge.

The cost of "Chronicle" was only $12 million, but it grossed $126 million worldwide. Fox signed Max Landis to write the script for the sequel in 2012, but was dissatisfied with the content of the script, which led to the screenwriter's withdrawal.
