■ Story

A coup d'état by Colonel Von Stein of the Federal Army took place on the colony planet Deloire. Although it was a cry for independence for Deloire, which had long suffered under Earth's oppression, it ended in a political settlement with the establishment of the Deloire State. Federal Council Chairman Donan Kassim used Von Stein as a puppet to begin oppressing the independence movement, but guerrillas led by Dr. Samarin fought back. Donan's son Krin saw the reality of Deloire and joined the guerrillas.

■Explanation

This is a theatrical compilation of the 75-episode TV series, condensed into 80 minutes from the perspective of a "documentary (archived footage)". While the TV series depicted the growth of the main character Klin throughout the entire series, this film focuses on the ideological conflict between the political leaders of both camps, Donan and Samarin, the choices Klin makes after seeing them, and the 540 days of turmoil that led to Deloya's independence. Also shown at the same time are "Xabungle Graffiti" and "Choro Q Dougram".

Appeal and evaluation of the work

Although "Document: Fang of the Sun Dougram" is a compilation of the TV series, it is not simply a re-edit of episodes, but rather provides a new perspective that delves into the heart of the story. In particular, by focusing on the ideological conflict between political leaders Donan and Samarin, the background and process of the Deloyer independence movement are better understood.

The protagonist Krin's growth and choices were important themes in the TV series, but the movie version emphasizes how those choices affect the future of Deloyer. Krin's decision to join the guerrillas is not simply a story of personal growth, but is portrayed as a symbol of political and social change. This is one of the reasons why the movie deeply moves and evokes sympathy in the viewers.

In addition, the design of the robot "Dagram" by mechanical designer Kunio Okawara can be said to be a monumental achievement in real robot anime. The battle scenes of Dougram were popular in the TV series, but the movie version adds even more sophisticated direction and music, providing a high level of satisfaction both visually and aurally.

In terms of music, Toru Fuyuki's soundtrack enhances the atmosphere of the work. In particular, the music in the tension of the battle scenes and the scenes depicting Klin's inner conflict have the power to stir the emotions of the viewer. This music helps to further deepen the story.
