The Transformers x G.I. Joe movie is not a crossover: one party can only play a supporting role

As the most popular toy series ever, "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe" are household IPs, and the movie series has also achieved a certain degree of success. Currently, "Transformers" is in the reboot stage, and the "G.I. Joe" movie has not had a truly outstanding work for a long time.

In the post-credits scene of Transformers: Rise of the Power Rangers, the official hinted that the two IPs will soon be linked to launch a movie. This is naturally good news for fans who like these IPs. However, in an interview with GameSpot, Lerenzo di Bonaventura, the producer of the movie Transformers: Origins, said that although this is a "linked movie", it is not a "linked" in the true sense.

"I think you have to be careful because I think the risk is that when you try to show both sides, one side becomes 'side character,'" he explains. "Let me give you an example: if you think about a lot of movies where there's a team trying to save the world, would you want that team to be just regular soldiers? Would that satisfy people? I don't think it would. But I'm a little bit against the idea of that crossover, just because it seems to promise a complete integration between the two worlds."

"So we're trying to find that balance, and it's tricky, but we will absolutely have GI Joe in a Transformers movie. There's no doubt about it. There's also the issue that some people want us to include a GI Joe villain, and personally, I don't want them to be the main villain. I don't think that's a threat enough for the robots."

Transformers: Origins, featuring the voices of Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne and Jon Hamm, will be released in theaters September 20.
