Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel movie set for March 17, 2023, Depp will not return

Warner announced that the prequel to "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", "Wonka", will be released in North America on March 17, 2023. The film will focus on the young Willy Wonka and his adventures before opening the world's most famous chocolate factory.

Warner Bros. is interested in letting Tom Holland or Timothée Chalamet play Wonka. There have been some news about the prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory a few years ago, and now it has officially announced various information and is about to start. Variety said that Warner Bros. hopes to start shooting the film within the next four months. Paul King (Paddington Bear) is directing, Simon Rich (SNL & An American Pickle) is writing the screenplay, and David Heyman (Harry Potter) is producing.

The character of Wonka appears in Roald Dahl's famous novels "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator". The former was adapted into two film versions (2005 and 1971), and this prequel will be an original story.
