Kevin Feige: "Deadpool and Wolverine" opens the MCU "mutant" generation

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige recently said that the upcoming "Deadpool vs. Wolverine" will officially usher in the "Mutant Era" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Previously, due to copyright issues, the copyright of Marvel mutants including "X-Men" belonged to 20th Century Fox (and Spider-Man belonged to Sony), so Disney and Marvel have not been able to use related characters. But "Deadpool and Wolverine" means that the series and the "X-Men" IP will join the huge MCU.

“Now we have characters from the X-Men world — mutants — that we haven’t been able to use before,” Feige said at a press conference. “So, this is the beginning of it all, and Deadpool and Wolverine kicks off the mutant era of the Marvel Universe for all the (movies) that follow.”

Deadpool vs. Wolverine not only means Hugh Jackman's return to his retired Wolverine career, but also means the first official appearance of this X-Men character in a Marvel movie, paving the way for more characters to join the series in the future. Although there are many memorable X-Men movies before, none of them are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Maybe Marvel will shoot an independent movie of X-Men or mutants after this.

Deadpool vs. Wolverine is set to hit theaters on July 26.
