Warner Bros. admits that Tenet is not doing well at the box office

2020 is a disaster year for theaters. This summer, Christopher Nolan's "Tenet" was once considered the savior of theaters. However, after it was released around the world at the end of August, the global box office has accumulated only 334 million US dollars. For a film with an investment of 200 million US dollars, it is obviously a failure.

"We can't tell you that the launch of Tenet was a success, but we're glad we did it," John Stankey, CEO of AT&T, the parent company of Warner Bros., said at a recent earnings conference.

In addition to the closure of some theaters due to the epidemic and the lack of enthusiasm of the audience, the reputation of "Tenet" is also quite polarized. For various reasons, the film failed to become the savior of theaters, and it couldn't even "save" itself.

The poor box office performance of "Tenet" has caused Warner to postpone many blockbusters to next year. Only "Wonder Woman 1984" is scheduled for the Christmas season. John Stankey said: "If feasible, we will release the most important content in theaters. We don't expect theaters to recover quickly, and there will be ups and downs for a while."

John Stankey said that before the outbreak of the epidemic at the end of February this year, Warner had about 180 works being filmed and produced, and 130 of them have resumed work. At least on the production side, the most dangerous period has been overcome.
