In 2002, director Paul Anderson kicked off the groundbreaking video game-to-film adaptation series with Resident Evil, and returned to direct three sequels. Although a new Resident Evil series and reboot are currently in development, Paul Anderson has admitted that he has left the series for good, allowing him to focus on the upcoming Monster Hunter series. In an interview with ComicBook, Anderson joked: "I did Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, and everyone said, 'Well, this is the final chapter. He's a liar.' We called it the final chapter because we made a story that wrapped up everything in it, which is what I always wanted to do. We made it the biggest and most successful game in the franchise. For me, it’s time to move on from that. I did what I said I was going to do, and I’m really proud of it. I think we did it, and we accomplished what we wanted to accomplish. I’ve been really focused on Monster Hunter for the last few years because it’s a new world that I want to immerse myself in.” The reboot of the Resident Evil film will start from the original story, promising to be faithfully tied to Capcom's video games. Netflix is also shooting two works based on Resident Evil, one is a CG animation work "Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness", and the other is a live-action series, which will focus on telling the story from the perspective of Wesker's young descendants. |
