Furuya Toru quits "Detective Conan" and "One Piece" due to cheating scandal

Veteran Japanese voice actor Toru Furuya announced today that he will no longer voice two characters - Toru Amuro in "Detective Conan" and Sabo in "One Piece" due to his earlier cheating scandal.

Toru Furuya's agency, Aoji Production, issued a statement saying that it had discussed with Toru Furuya himself and decided that other voice actors would take over his role as the voice of the above-mentioned character.

In the statement, Toru Furuya apologized for the damage his behavior had caused to the work and the character's image, and said that quitting the role was the only way to make up for his mistakes. Toru Furuya also apologized to the fans who have always supported him and the audience of the works he dubbed.

According to Japanese media Weekly Bunshun, the 70-year-old famous voice actor Toru Furuya had an extramarital affair with a female fan who was 37 years younger than him for four and a half years, and he caused the other party to have an abortion and committed violence.

Toru Furuya has voiced characters such as Toru Amuro from "Detective Conan", Sabo from "One Piece", Seiya from "Saint Seiya", Tuxedo Mask from "Sailor Moon", Yamcha from "Dragon Ball", and Amuro from "Gundam".
