Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy is still developing his Star Wars movie, but the release date seems to be far away. According to Deadline, Shawn Levy confirmed that he is still working on the project, but he is not completely sure whether it will eventually become a film. He said: "I'm still developing my Star Wars film and would very much like to get it made one day. I have a great idea. Development is slow because it takes time to work within such a large mythology. You always have to pay attention to, ‘Wait, what’s that person over there doing, what’s that group doing?’ Because they have the TV shows, they have the movies. But I’ve been having some really exciting discussions with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and executive vice president and chief creative officer Dave Filoni and the group over there.” Shawn Levy's comments echo those of Indiana Jones and the Fallen director James Mangold, who is also directing a Star Wars film, who said he didn't want his project to be bogged down by the expanding premise. In addition to the movies and TV series, the Star Wars canon includes dozens of books and comics, several video games, audiobooks, and more, all of which the filmmakers have to take into account. This makes developing new stories in the Star Wars universe complicated, as the creators have to respect the existing setting while finding room to tell new stories. |
