It was previously rumored that Hayao Miyazaki's next animated film "How Do You Want to Live?" will use CG technology. However, according to Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki, the film will be fully hand-painted. The animated film is based on a 1937 short story of the same name by Genzaburo Yoshino, which tells the story of a young boy who goes to live with his uncle after losing his father. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Toshio Suzuki said that although all industries around the world are at a standstill due to the epidemic, it will not affect Hayao Miyazaki's next film. "We still use a completely hand-drawn method, but the time required to complete a film has increased because we have to draw more frames. When we were only working on My Neighbor Totoro, we only had eight animators and it took eight months. But for the film that Hayao Miyazaki is currently making, we have 60 animators and can only draw one minute of footage per month. This means that in 12 months a year, 12 minutes of film footage is produced. In fact, we have invested three years in this film, which means that there are currently 36 minutes of footage. We hope to complete it in three years." Miyazaki's son Goro Miyazaki, who previously worked on "Poppy Hill" and "The Sea Saga," is also making his own animated film, using CG graphics. In December last year, Toshio Suzuki announced that "What Kind of Life Do You Want to Live?" was 15% completed. |
