Moving Picture Company (MPC), the studio responsible for the rework of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie character, has announced that it will be closing its doors. The Vancouver studio sent a letter to employees on Wednesday saying they were forced to close due to "increasing external market pressures." The studio reportedly employed 800 artists, who helped rework Sonic's image after the controversial Sonic the Hedgehog movie project was first revealed. They have also previously worked on The Lion King, Watchmen, The Call of the Wild, and won an Academy Award for Life of Pi. Sonic the Hedgehog was originally scheduled to be released in November this year, but due to the controversy caused by the image of Sonic in the first trailer, it was forced to rework and postpone. The rework has been completed and is expected to be released on February 14, 2020. Jim Carrey will play the villain Robotnik and Ben Schwartz will voice Sonic. |
