The original author of "Shanghai Fortress" apologizes: I have failed to live up to your expectations

Following the apology from Teng Huatao, the director of the movie "Shanghai Fortress", Jiang Nan, the author of the original novel, also apologized on Weibo today.

Jiang Nan first thanked everyone who participated in the film on Weibo, many of whom were his former readers. He then mentioned those viewers who did not like the film, saying that "I failed your expectations."

Since its release on August 9, "Shanghai Fortress" has only just broken 100 million yuan in box office revenue. As a science fiction film with a huge investment, such slow box office revenue obviously cannot guarantee a payback.

The disastrous reputation and box office failure of Shanghai Fortress also poured cold water on the craze for Chinese sci-fi movies. One viewer commented: "The Wandering Earth opened a door for Chinese sci-fi, but Shanghai Fortress closed it again."
