The 2003 thriller "Oldboy" directed by Park Chan-wook, adapted from the Japanese manga "Old Boy", is the second part of the director's "Revenge Trilogy" and won the 57th Cannes International Film Festival Jury Prize and other awards. Although Park Chan-wook's film version of "Oldboy" is not based on the original novel, it has been widely praised by Hollywood, and the American version of "Oldboy" starring Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen was released in 2013. Recently, Lionsgate Television announced that it will launch a TV adaptation of the Korean version of the movie "Oldboy", which will be directed by Park Chan-wook himself. In response, the executive vice president and script development director of Lionsgate Television mentioned that "the original emotional power, iconic fighting scenes and visceral style make this movie a classic", but did not disclose more content related to the production of the series. It is understood that the TV series will tell a story similar to the movie, in which a man was imprisoned for 15 years for no reason. During this time, he saw on TV the news that his wife was killed and his daughter was missing. So he changed his mindset and made full preparations during his imprisonment, until he saw the light of day again 15 years later. |
