Recently, Shanghai's first batch of 24-hour cinemas were officially announced to be launched. Shanghai Grandview Cinema and Cathay Cinema became the first batch of "24-hour cinemas" in Shanghai.

However, these cinemas are different from the real "24-hour" convenience stores. They can be understood as "midnight-crossing cinemas". For example, the last show of a normal movie is usually at around 11 pm, but the show of a "24-hour cinema" will be delayed until after midnight. This is a good benefit for "night owl" movie fans. A survey conducted by the New First-tier Cities Research Institute last year showed that Shanghai had more than 800 nighttime movie shows after 10 p.m. in 2017, second only to Shenzhen among cities nationwide. Currently, the "nighttime movies" played in cinemas are mainly concentrated between 10 p.m. and midnight. Unless it is a midnight show of a commercial blockbuster, the last movie scheduled is mostly after 11 p.m.

The "24-hour cinema" launched this time will further extend the movie screening time, and the screenings will be delayed until after midnight, further enriching the supply of urban "night culture" content.
