Zhang Yimou wins Golden Horse Best Director Award and Xu Zheng wins Best Actor Award

Zhang Yimou's "Shadow" was the biggest winner of this year's Golden Horse Awards, with Zhang Yimou winning the Best Director Award. In addition, the film also won the Best Visual Effects Award, Best Costume Design Award, and Best Art Design Award.

Zhang Yimou said at the event: "I have been making movies for so many years, and this is the first time I have been nominated for the Golden Horse Best Director Award. Thank you to the judges for giving me this award. The directors nominated this time are all very strong and represent the inheritance of Chinese directors. There are young directors and old directors like me who are nominated for the first time. I would like to thank all the creative staff and actors in the team, the production company and my family."

Xu Zheng won the Best Actor Award for his role in "Dying to Survive". The newly crowned actor said at the scene, "It is an honor for me to be involved in "Dying to Survive" in my acting career. I would like to thank another producer, Ning Hao. I have played many roles. This time, no matter how many takes Director Wen Muye wants to shoot, I will cooperate with him endlessly. This is returning to the original intention of an actor. I would like to thank all the staff who have contributed silently. These halos are given to me by them. Special thanks to our audience. The number of viewers of this movie is 90 million. The audience is very great. Finally, I want to say why I am nervous to speak here, because this is the temple of filmmakers. I believe that Chinese films will get better and better."

The Best New Director Award at the 55th Golden Horse Awards was presented to Wen Muye, the director of "Dying to Survive". Wen Muye, who was directing a feature film for the first time, thanked the two producers Xu Zheng and Ning Hao, "They have always been my teachers", and said on the spot: "I will try my best not to disappoint my predecessors!" "Dying to Survive" also won the Best Original Screenplay Award that night. Director Dapeng won the Best Drama Short Film Award for "Auspicious". He said on stage: "I am an ordinary person, and I hope this trophy will give ordinary people strength."

The late director Hu Bo's posthumous work "An Elephant Sitting Still" won the Best Feature Film Award and the Best Adapted Screenplay Award. Hu Bo's mother went on stage to receive the award. She went on stage twice to thank the judges and the audience on behalf of Hu Bo. Hu's mother cried excitedly on the stage and did not speak more. This scene was very touching. "An Elephant Sitting Still" links together the biographies of a series of different protagonists, telling the story of a single, tense day from dawn to dusk, depicting a society marked by selfishness.

Xie Yingxuan won the Golden Horse Award for Best Actress for her role in "Who Fell in Love with Him First?" She cried with joy and said, "This is the first time I stand here not for a stage play, but for a Golden Horse Award. I want to thank my partner in the play, Roy Chiu." The other two Best Actress nominees, Sun Li, who played "Empresses in the Palace", and Zhou Xun, who played "Ruyi", appeared on the same stage as the "mother-in-law and daughter-in-law" in two popular dramas, making the stage very lively.

This year's Golden Horse Awards were dominated by films from the mainland. In addition to Zhang Yimou's Shadow, which led with 12 nominations, and Dying to Survive, which was nominated for 7 awards, there were also Jiang Wen's Hidden Man (6 nominations), Duan Yihong's The Snowstorm (6 nominations), Bi Gan's The Last Night on Earth (5 nominations), and Us and Them (5 nominations), etc. The number of nominations far exceeded that of films from Taiwan and Hong Kong. In the end, the mainland films Shadow and Dying to Survive became the biggest winners.

Gong Li, Zhou Xun, Sun Li and Zhao Tao compete for beauty on the red carpet

Andy Lau made his final appearance, and the crews of "Shadow" and "Dying to Survive" also appeared

At the red carpet ceremony of the Golden Horse Awards, director Zhang Yimou and the main actors Deng Chao and Sun Li appeared. Deng Chao said frankly, "When filming Shadow, the biggest difficulty was facing Sun Li, because we had to play a couple in the play, and there was also a double, so the relationship was difficult." Sun Li said, "Being nominated for the Golden Horse Awards is a kind of encouragement, I am very happy."

Zhou Xun, who was nominated for Best Actress, was very popular on the red carpet. Talking about her cross-border cooperation with director Shunji Iwai in Hello, Zhihua, she said: "I am very lucky to have this film. I may become a director in the future." Gong Li, as the chairperson of the jury of the 55th Golden Horse Awards, made her final appearance on the red carpet. She revealed: "The competition for the nominated films this year was very fierce. We had a lot of ideas, but the review went smoothly, like a big family."
