Batman's new father: The actor of "The Dark Knight Rises" joins "Joker"

As the filming of the independent DC superhero movie "Joker" begins, new information about the movie continues to be released. After the appearance and set photos of the protagonist Joker were exposed yesterday, Hollywood actor Brett Cullen, who has appeared in "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Ghost Rider", will join the cast to play Thomas Wayne, the father of Batman.

Thomas Wayne first appeared in Detective Comics No. 33 in November 1939. He is a respected doctor and philanthropist in Gotham City. Wayne and his wife were killed in front of the young Bruce, which prompted Bruce to have a strong desire to eradicate evil. Since then, he is a rich second-generation and playboy during the day, and transforms into the Dark Knight Batman, who is feared by criminals at night.

In the early comics, Wayne's killer was the mugger Joe Hill, but starting with Tim Burton's first Batman movie in 1989, the Joker became the culprit.

Previously, comedy star Alec Baldwin had announced that he would play the role of Thomas Wayne in the independent film "Joker", but at the last minute of negotiations with Warner, Baldwin rejected the film due to "schedule conflicts" and said, "I believe there are 25 male actors who can play this role."

It is reported that in "Joker", Batman's father is a greasy businessman, who, according to foreign media, is somewhat similar to Donald Trump in the 1980s. In the famous American variety show "Saturday Night Live", Baldwin became popular for playing and spoofing Trump's image.

In the independent film "Joker", Joaquin Phoenix stars, with Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz ("Deadpool 2"), Frances Conroy ("American Horror Story" and "Scent of a Woman"), and Marc Maron ("GLOW") participating. It is directed by Todd Phillips ("The Hangover") and will be released in North America on October 4, 2019.
