Jack Black may be playing another well-known video game character in the film: Steve from Minecraft. Black will apparently be joining the cast of the film adaptation of the mega-hit game, with Deadline reporting that he will play Steve, the original default character skin in Minecraft. Variety also reported that Black is part of the cast, but did not specify what role he might be playing. Black memorably played Bowser in 2023's Super Mario Bros. Movie and will play the acerbic robot Cleaver in the Borderlands movie, but Steve doesn't have a well-defined personality. He essentially serves as a silent vessel for the player to use. I'm curious to see if Black brings a muted take on Steve -- but if I were to guess, I suspect he'll be a little more maniacal. Deadline claims the film, which will also star Jason Momoa, Emma Myles, Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Eugene Hansen, has been in development for a long time and is set to be released on April 4, 2025. |
