Fallout live-action series will tell the origin story of mascot Vault Boy

The first trailer for the live-action series adapted from the game "Fallout" was recently released, and the producer of the series, Todd Howard, who is also the boss of the game developer Bethesda, also revealed a lot of new information about the series in an interview. He said that the series will include the origin story of "Vault Boy", the mascot of the fictional company "Vault-Tec" in the game.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Todd did not share specific details of the origin story, only saying that he thought it was a good idea: "This is something they (the crew) came up with, (it) is very smart."

In the game, players often see the "Shelter Guy", whether it is the promotional image of the skill world, the upgrade interface, or the collectible figure that gives the player skill points in the game. According to the Fallout Wiki, in reality, the "Shelter Guy" was created to "create a memorable character" to help sell the game. Leonard Boyarsky, the art director of the original Fallout, drew a sketch of what he called "Skill Guy" to help illustrate some of the ideas he was trying to explain; then, artist George Almond improved it through the first few pictures in the game, and finally Tramell Ray Isaac accepted the appearance of the mascot we often see in the game trailer.

In 2002, Fallout game producer Tim Cain shared a more concise story about how the character was created in an interview. He said: "I just remember Leonard told T. Ray Isaac to draw something similar to Mr. Moneybags (mascot) in Monopoly." This may become an Easter egg-like "origin story" in the TV series, such as a Vault-Tec marketing director named Leonard told advertisers named George and Tramell to create a company mascot.

The Fallout live-action TV series will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on April 12, 2024.
