The Screen Actors Guild is about to strike and negotiations with film and television companies have broken down

According to foreign media reports, a strike by the Screen Actors Guild seems imminent. Negotiations between the union and the film company ended without an agreement or extension, and the contract between the two parties officially expired at midnight on July 12. The Screen Actors Guild is expected to hold a meeting on Thursday morning, US time, to call for a strike.

It is reported that the filming of "Gladiator 2" and "Mortal Kombat 2" will be suspended. There will be no actors participating in the promotion of summer movies from the end of July to August.

During a strike, actors cannot do the following:

• Filming any film or television production

• Attend media interviews or movie premieres

• Promote any work at comic conventions and be advised not to attend

In a statement, Screen Actors Guild President Fran Drescher said the AMPTP's response to its key issues was "insulting and disrespectful."

The Writers Guild of America strike, which began on May 2, has significantly reduced film and television production. The Screen Actors Guild has as many as 160,000 members and has not gone on strike since 1980. The last time actors and writers went on strike at the same time was in 1960, which would have a significant negative impact on the film and television industry in the United States and even the world.

AMPTP said: "We are deeply disappointed that the Screen Actors Guild has decided to withdraw from the negotiation process. This is the union's choice. They have rejected our proposals for historic and residual pay increases, significant increases to pension and health care contribution caps, audition protections, a shortened series option period, and a groundbreaking AI proposal to protect actors' digital likenesses."

"Instead of continuing to negotiate, the Screen Actors Guild has set us on a path that will deepen the financial hardship of thousands of workers."

Foreign media pointed out that the main disagreement between the two sides is the revenue sharing of streaming media works and artificial intelligence. Many streaming media are unwilling to release the viewing data of their works, and the actors' union hopes to hand it over to a third party for statistics. Earlier, the opening of the Marvel series "Secret Invasion" was produced using AI artificial intelligence, which made the actors' union very annoyed.

According to recent foreign media reports, the investors have taken a tough stance on the screenwriters' strike, which has been going on for two months, hoping to use the tactic of "dragging" to make the screenwriters gradually unable to pay their mortgages and eventually have to "give in."
