Marvel's Spider-Man spinoff El Muerto, originally set to star Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, has been removed from Sony's release date list, according to Hollywood Reporter. Borys Kit, an editor at the publication, shared the news on Twitter, saying: "Project: El Muerto, originally set to star Bad Bunny, has been removed from the release schedule. (The film) was originally scheduled to be released on January 12, 2024." Since the project was announced in April 2022, there has not been much public information about the progress of the film, but this is still very sudden. It was previously reported that filming was originally scheduled to start in August this year. It is not clear whether the film has been completely canceled or postponed by Sony. El Muerto, also known as the Dead Man in Chinese, is a Marvel anti-hero and a villain in the Spider-Man comics. He is a Latino wrestler who has gained superpowers. However, because the character is not very popular in the comics, many fans questioned why Sony chose this character to shoot a film. Also, considering that Bad Bunny had previously made an impressive appearance in the Bullet Train movie, many people found it unsatisfying that he got his own superhero movie but as a minor villain in an obscure Spider-Man. |
