'Lost' screenwriter Lindelof: Leaving the 'Star Wars' universe was not voluntary

Damon Lindelof has left the Star Wars universe, and it wasn't of his own volition.

Lindelof recently said in an interview: "Joining the Star Wars universe is not just talk. I really joined, but I was kicked out."

"Lost" co-producer Lindelof wrote a script with Justin Britt-Gibson ("Counterpart," "Into the Badlands"), but both left the project in February. Lindelof said in an interview this month that his axed Star Wars script was a "real labor of love."

The original screenwriter team was replaced by Steven Knight, the screenwriter of Peaky Blinders, and documentary director Sami Obaid-Chinoy is still directing this work. The new Star Wars film will tell the story 15 years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, and Daisy Ridley will continue to play Rey in this film.

When asked if he would be willing to return to the Star Wars universe if given the chance, Lindelof replied: "Would I run outside the club and queue up again to get in? Of course I would."

"If you don't succeed the first time, try twice more, and then try again, as Yoda would say," he joked.
