"Slam Dunk" box office in mainland China exceeded 200 million, Taobao hot search peripherals were sold out

After 20 years, "Slam Dunk" returns and the theatrical version is officially released in mainland China.

When the familiar melody sounded and the familiar movements were reproduced, the old fans' eyes were instantly filled with tears.

Two days after the movie was released, the box office has exceeded 200 million yuan. The search volume for Slam Dunk on Taobao has surged and it has topped the Taobao hot search list. Jerseys, T-shirts, figures and other peripheral products have been snapped up by netizens.

Toei Animation’s official Tmall website posted an announcement saying “We’re really out of stock, guys!”.

On the first day of the release of the movie Slam Dunk, as of 18:20:47 on April 20, the total box office exceeded 100 million, becoming the first Japanese animated film in Chinese film history to have a cumulative box office of over 100 million on the first day of release.

As of press time, the Douban score of "Slam Dunk" still remains at 9.1 points, with more than 60,000 people rating it, and 66.6% of the reviews being 5 stars.

"Slam Dunk" is directed by the original author Takehiko Inoue and he also served as the screenwriter. The movie version is centered around Ryouta Miyagi and tells the story of the much-anticipated national competition kicking off. Sakuragi Hanamichi, Rukawa Kaede, Ryouta Miyagi, Mitsui Hisashi and Akagi Takenori finally step onto the court, representing Shohoku High School in a fierce battle against Japan's strongest team, Sanno Industrial.

It is understood that "Slam Dunk" is a youth comic with high school basketball as the theme by Japanese cartoonist Takehiko Inoue. The sales of the first edition of the single volume reached 2.5 million copies, setting a sales record for the year.
