Jonathan Krisel directs Detective Pikachu 2 for Legendary Pictures

Deadline reported today (March 4) that Jonathan Krisel, the well-known director of "Portlandia", has been confirmed to direct the sequel to "Detective Pikachu". The film will still be produced by Legendary Pictures. The specific cast has not yet been determined. It is not clear whether the well-known movie star Ryan Reynolds will still play Pikachu.

"Detective Pikachu" is a film jointly produced by Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, directed by Rob Letterman, voiced by Ryan Reynolds, Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Suki Waterhouse, Ken Watanabe, Chris Geere, Rita Ora, etc. The film was released in Japan on May 3, 2019, and was released simultaneously in North America and mainland China on May 10, 2019.

The film is adapted from the Nintendo 3DS game of the same name. It tells the story of how the great detective Pikachu and Tim met in Ryme City and joined hands to investigate the case and pursue the truth in order to uncover the mysterious disappearance of Tim's father.
