25 years later, James Cameron himself admitted that in his classic blockbuster "Titanic", Jack and Rose could have both survived, but there were "many variables" in the film. Jack's death at the end of Titanic is one of the most talked-about scenes in film history. Many people believe that Jack's letting go of the floating door and falling into the icy water was a calculated and necessary sacrifice to save his love Rose. But some fans pointed out that there was clearly a lot of space on the door, and if the two had spent a little time figuring out how to make both of them lie on the door at the same time, it would have been a happy ending. The discussion on this topic has continued for more than 20 years, and has even spawned a number of video self-media and talk shows, and has become a hot topic at some award ceremonies. As part of the 25th anniversary celebrations for the premiere of Titanic, Cameron teamed up with National Geographic to try to address the controversial topic. In this special, two stuntmen recreate the film's final scene in a safe environment and conduct a series of tests to try to see if Jack has the ability to survive this ordeal. First, both "Jack" and "Rose" tried to climb onto the door immediately, but this would have submerged most of their bodies in the icy sea water and both would have died before the lifeboat arrived. Then they found a position where both of their upper bodies were above water level. Cameron said on the show: "The violent shaking helped him to stay out of the water for a long time, maybe a few hours." However, this test did not take into account the fatigue of the two before they found the door of destiny. In order to restore the details of the film, the stuntmen splashed water crazily and were pulled underwater, just like the content of the film. Rose then handed the life jacket to Jack, and both stuntmen balanced on the door with their upper bodies free of water. Cameron commented: "So he can stabilize, she can make room for him, if we predict this, he can hold on until the lifeboat comes. In this way, Jack can survive, but there are still many variables. I think his thought process in the film is 'I will not do a thing that endangers her life', and this character is 100% certain." |
