As the new co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn is currently taking on the responsibility of refuting rumors on social media. He has refuted several rumors recently, and now he has refuted another rumor about the next Superman casting, considering that Henry Cavill will no longer play the role. On Twitter, Gunn responded to speculation that Jacob Elordi would be the next Superman. When asked about his thoughts, Gunn said: "My thoughts are that there is no new Superman at the moment." He continued, "Casting, as it almost always is for me, will happen when the script is finished or nearly finished, and the script isn't finished yet. We'll have some announcements to make shortly, but Superman will not be part of it." Last year, Henry Cavill announced that he would play Superman again, and then confirmed that he would leave The Witcher series, supposedly to make time for DC projects. But not long after that, DC confirmed that Cavill would not return for the next Superman project. The project will feature a younger Superman. However, Cavill is not leaving the role forever. Gunn explained: "At present our story will focus on the early stages of Superman's life, so the role will not be played by Henry Cavill. But we just had a great meeting with Henry, we are both super fans, and we discussed many exciting possibilities for cooperation in the future." Currently, the new "Superman" project is still in its early stages, with no news on the script, casting, release date, etc. |
