The Last of Us series director supports Bella: The best Ellie ever

Recently, "The Last of Us" series producer Craig Mazin was interviewed by "SFX" magazine and talked about why he chose Bella Ramsey to play Ellie.

Craig Mazin recalled that it was easy for Pedro Pascal to become the male lead of The Last of Us. He said: "When I talked to him, I thought, here he comes, he is Joel", but the casting of Ellie was much more difficult.

“It took a long time to cast Ellie because that was a more difficult role,” Mazin said. “It’s a difficult thing to do in acting to try to play a 14-year-old girl. It’s an easy thing to do but hard to do well, and kids don’t have as much life experience. So it was hard to find kids who could embody that.”

"She also needed to be funny, strong, powerful and protective. She also needed us to believe that she would work well with Joel, so we spent a long time auditioning over 100 people."

They eventually chose Bella Ramsey to play Ellie. Mazin said: "I was worried that Neil wouldn't like her. Happily, he did. We couldn't have done a better job and she's the most outstanding performer."
