Makoto Shinkai's "The Journey of Bell and Sparrow" ranks 16th in the history of Japanese animated films

As of Sunday, Makoto Shinkai's latest animated film, "Suzuya's Journey," has sold 6.36 million tickets and grossed 8,592,509,010 yen (435 million yuan/62.36 million U.S. dollars), making it the 68th highest-grossing film in Japan's history and the 16th highest-grossing animated film.

Currently, the revenue of "Suzuya's Journey" has surpassed the number one "Pokemon" animated film (the first theatrical version), and now exceeds the "Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet" theatrical version, the "Yo-kai Watch" theatrical version and "Doraemon Stand By Me".

It also earned more than the Shin Godzilla movie directed by Hideaki Anno.

The animated films currently ranked above "Suzuya's Journey" include "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba", six Ghibli animations, Makoto Shinkai's own first two works, "One Piece Film Red", "Jujutsu Kaisen 0", "Neon Genesis Evangelion: II" and the three "Detective Conan" theatrical versions.

The Journey of Bell Buds was released in Japan on November 11, ranking first on the first day of the box office, and sold 1.33 million tickets in three days, earning 1.88 billion yen. The film sold 38.7% more tickets in three days than Makoto Shinkai's Your Name, and the box office was 47.4% higher. Compared with Weathering With You, the ticket sales were also 14.8% higher, and the revenue increased by 14.4%, setting a record for the strongest momentum of Makoto Shinkai's film in the first three days of its premiere.
