Silent Hill new movie in production with a plot completely separate from the first two

With rumors of a Silent Hill game swirling around, a new Silent Hill movie may also be in the works.

In an interview with Jeux Video, Christopher Gans, the director of the Silent Hill 1 film, said that a new work is expected to be released as early as 2023, but it does not look like a sequel.

He said: “I’m currently working on this project (the third Silent Hill movie) and the script will be completely separate from the previous two movies and respect the way Silent Hill has evolved.

Silent Hill is a bit like The Twilight Zone, the Fourth Dimension, where anything can happen. The Silent Hill I’m making is the Silent Hill of 2023, because it’s going to be released next year, 2023, not the Silent Hill that I imagined in 2006.”

That's pretty surprising considering the lack of interest in Silent Hill movies. The first Silent Hill made just $100 million on a $50 million budget, and the sequel, Silent Hill 2: Revelation, performed even worse both critically and at the box office. But Gans believes the series can evolve.

He added: "This is a Silent Hill made for a modern audience, while also being very respectful of its story. I know Silent Hill is a very good game series and a noble work of art. The people who came up with Silent Hill put a lot of courage into it."

Gans hinted that Silent Hill 3 will reflect the changes in modern horror.

“It was very important to me to design Silent Hill for the current public’s needs. It’s clear that horror films today don’t look like horror films from 2006. And that’s fine. It’s not that horror films from 2007 were bad, but every genre is going through an evolution.

I’m trying to take into account what I’ve seen recently that’s more original and more startling in terms of horror movies, and see if Silent Hill fits in. Silent Hill has always been a game that transcends convention and is ahead of its time.”
