Warner Bros.' new CEO will double down on Harry Potter IP

Warner Bros.' new CEO will double down on Harry Potter IP

It’s a new day for Warner Bros. Discovery Channel after the merger, with new CEO David Zaslav taking charge of the company’s overall direction, including doubling down on the Harry Potter IP.

Warner Bros. has seen a large number of executives leave, but one thing that has not changed is the continued focus on Warner Bros.' flagship series. There have been reports that Zaslav is looking for a head for the entire DC brand, similar to Kevin Feige, president of Disney's Marvel Studios. It looks like Harry Potter is also on Warner's priority list.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Zaslav is looking to produce Harry Potter-related content for HBO Max. The report also claims that the CEO plans to meet with Harry Potter author JK Rowling to discuss potential content.

This is interesting because the Harry Potter franchise is struggling under Warner Bros. right now. Fantastic Beasts 3 is still in theaters, and it only grossed $379 million worldwide. That's far less than Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018), which grossed $648 million, and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018), which grossed $811 million.

"Fantastic Beasts" is only a derivative of "Harry Potter", and the "Harry Potter" series still has many directions to go. As for games, "Hogwarts Legacy" developed by Avalanche Studios is scheduled to be launched during the Christmas holiday in 2022.
