If 20th Century Fox has its way, the ocean could become a battlefield again. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, studio president Steve Asbell hinted at a prequel to the 2003 film Master and Commander, starring Russell Crowe. "I'm working on it, and it's the first movie I made at Fox 20 years ago," Asbell said. "We have a great script. We just need the right director." Asbell's comments are welcome news to "Master and Commander" fans, who have been waiting more than 20 years for this new film. A prequel makes sense given the amount of time that has passed, but there's a lot to be learned from the original novels, which span more than 20 novels. Asbell also discussed the possibility of reviving other films, saying he had no hope of making another "Die Hard" or "Kingsman: The Golden Circle." He also responded to star Sandra Bullock's comments that Hollywood might not be brave enough to make "Speed 3," laughing, saying: "Hollywood is brave enough. We're brave enough. We're waiting for the call." He added: "This is one of the last movies that we haven't remade. To really be a reason for audiences to come back, it has to be a great idea, an idea that (Bullock and Keanu Reeves) are excited about. Because that's the reason to see the movie. It's obviously a very important title for us, but it's not something that we're going to take lightly or just try to force them into it. They have to be involved in the development of the idea." |
