Taiwanese martial arts film director Zhang Pengyi died of stomach cancer on September 24 at the age of 80.

Zhang Pengyi is known as the "Taiwanese Chu Yuan". After joining Hong Kong Shaw Brothers Film Company, he directed many Gu Long-adapted films. During his lifetime, he directed martial arts films such as "Midnight Orchid", "Sword Soul", "Chu Liuxiang's Finale", "Ancient Sword Heroic Soul", and "Water Moon Thirteen Blades", which were quite famous in the 1970s and 1980s. The drama version of "Roaring West Wind" directed by him and starring Wu Jing is also popular all over the country.

Zhang Pengyi joined Shaw Brothers Film Company in Hong Kong in his early years and filmed many movies adapted from Gu Long's novels. Zhang Pengyi is good at using different camera angles and fast editing to create an atmosphere of swordplay and swordplay, and the martial arts scenes appear neat and clean. In 1985, Zhang Pengyi filmed "The New Legend of Chor Liu-heung" and recreated the legend of Chor Liu-heung with Hong Kong star Adam Cheng, leaving behind a classic martial arts drama.
