The prequel comic of the Riddler, the villain of the new Batman movie, will be released in October

The new Batman has finally been released in China. The movie's biggest villain, the Riddler, is played by Paul Dano. He explains his background story in the movie, but his screen time is not long. If you want to know where the Riddler originated from in the world view of this movie, DC recently announced that the Riddler: Year One comic, written by Paul Dano himself, will be released in October.

Billed as an origin story for the film version of the character, The Riddler: Year One explores how accountant Edward Nashton went from "a simple Gotham City nobody to Batman's nemesis, setting them on a collision course in the film."

The Riddler: Year One will be released bimonthly for six issues through DC's adult-oriented Black Label imprint, which allows for darker, more mature themes and stories. The limited series will be drawn by Stevan Subic, who is best known for his Conan the Barbarian and Tarzan stories in the European market.

DC has previously recruited actors to write comic book stories for DC characters they play in films, including other Batman villains - most notably actor Danny DeVito, who played a particularly terrifying version of the Penguin in 1992's Batman Returns and then wrote a Penguin story in the film.

However, this may be the first time that actor Paul Dano has written his own character's story as a comic book writer, making The Riddler: Year One a unique insight into the villain's history and psychology.
