20th Century Fox executives say Avatar 2 will still have no trouble attracting large audiences 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell has commented on the long-awaited sequel to Avatar, which is finally coming to theaters this December after a 13-year hiatus. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Asbell said the film will "blow people's minds away." He added: "You're not ready for what (director James Cameron) is doing." As for the long gaps between sequels, Asbell said he's not worried, in part because Disney's marketing prowess is so strong. "I can tell you there is no better marketing tool in this industry than Disney. They're going to do an incredible job reigniting the passion for original films," Asbell said. The executive also mentioned that Avatar 2 isn't just a sequel - it's part of a saga that will continue in the future, with multiple additional sequels following. "It's compelling in its own right, but it's also going to be compelling to go back to these characters and see how they've evolved. It's not about Avatar being a really big movie, it's about how Avatar is a really important cultural moment for audiences. I don't think it's going to be hard to convince people to come back." The executive also stressed that there will be no delays for Avatar 2. He said it will be released on December 22 and that will absolutely not change. The sequel sees the return of the original cast, including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver, as well as newcomers like Kate Winslet. In addition to Avatar 2, Ubisoft will also release its new Avatar video game Pandora Frontier later this year, which will be produced by the development team of The Division. |
