Paramount is reportedly developing a live-action film based on the Beyblade battle shedding, with Deadline saying it will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (who worked on the Pirates of the Caribbean and National Treasure franchises and has been responsible for films like Bad Boys and Black Hawk Down). For those unfamiliar, Beyblade tops are toys that you throw together into an arena using a specialized launcher, hoping to knock your opponent's top out of the ring or stop it from spinning. They've also appeared in several comic book series (the first of which came out at the same time as the toy in 1999), and some of them have been turned into animated TV shows. Deadline reports that the film is still in "early production," but the idea of a live-action Beyblade movie has been around for a while. In 2015, Deadline reported that Paramount had purchased the rights to a live-action Beyblade movie from Mary Parent (who has worked on projects like Pacific Rim, Detective Pikachu, and Dune). Now, Deadline reports that screenwriters Neil Widener (Now You See Me 2) and Gavin James (announced screenwriter for Now You See Me 3) have joined Jerry Bruckheimer on the project. |
