Why are movie tickets more expensive during the Spring Festival this year? Experts: The ticket price makes up for the lack of attendance

For those who rushed to watch movies during this year's Spring Festival holiday, I believe the biggest feeling is that movie tickets have become more expensive. Compared with previous years, you spend the same money to watch a movie, but this year you have to eat at least one less bucket of popcorn.

According to real-time data from Lighthouse Professional Edition, as of 13:26 on February 2, the total box office of new films (including pre-sales) in the 2022 Spring Festival has exceeded 2.2 billion yuan.

Along with the pre-sale box office, movie ticket prices across the country also rose. Last year's average ticket price for the Spring Festival was 48.9 yuan, which was already a new high, but this year's average ticket price of 58.7 yuan made many viewers say "I look down on it" and "I don't deserve it."

It is reported that the ticket prices for the Spring Festival period have been increasing year by year, with the average ticket price gradually rising from 33.7 yuan in 2012 to a new high of 48.9 yuan in 2021. The average ticket price during the pre-sale stage of the Spring Festival period in 2022 was as high as 58.2 yuan.

This year, the average ticket price on the first day of the Spring Festival was 58.6 yuan, a record high.

Moreover, the box office on the first day of the 2022 Spring Festival was lower than that of the same period last year, and the number of moviegoers decreased by nearly 9 million. High ticket prices are an important factor affecting the audience's entry.

Regarding the high ticket prices, industry insiders bluntly said, " If there are not enough people, the ticket prices will make up for it ." Affected by the epidemic, the operating conditions of theaters have been poor in the past two years. There are many mid-year schedules that lack high-quality films to attract audiences, and the importance of the Spring Festival schedule has become increasingly prominent. In addition, some regions are facing epidemic disturbances, and the attendance rate is limited to 50%. Theaters rely on price increases to maintain daily operations.
