The Last Duel's box office failure blames American millennials

Although the new film "The Last Duel" directed by Ridley Scott, the director of "Alien" and "Blade Runner", has good reputation (85% freshness on Rotten Tomatoes, 67 on MTC), it is a commercial failure. In an interview with foreign media, Mr. Ridley blamed the box office failure of "The Last Duel" on American millennials.

“I think what it comes down to is that our audience right now is the one that grew up on their damn phones. Millennials never want to be taught anything unless it’s on their phones. It’s a universal problem, but I think we’re dealing with a Facebook problem right now. I think it’s misguided and it’s giving the newest generation a false sense of confidence.”

"The Last Duel" only took in $27 million worldwide after its premiere last month, and it still has a long way to go to recoup its $100 million cost.

While Scott was initially concerned that Disney would undervalue his historic masterpiece, that was not the case.

"Disney did a great job promoting it. The bosses loved the movie... I was worried it wasn't going to work for them."

The Last Duel failed at the box office, but Scott still supports the film and said that the studio's decision was correct from beginning to end. The Last Duel received a positive review of 8 points from IGN.
