Martin has already written hundreds of pages of The Winds of Winter in 2020. It’s still early to finish.

George R. Martin shared the latest news about "The Winds of Winter", the sixth part of "A Song of Ice and Fire". Martin revealed on his homepage that he wrote "hundreds and thousands of pages" of manuscripts in 2020.

Martin said on his homepage that while he has made great progress on The Winds of Winter, he still has "hundreds of pages to write before the novel can be satisfactorily concluded." Despite this, he claimed that 2020 was "the best year I've ever started writing" and that he hopes to bring a "satisfactory ending" to The Winds of Winter in 2021, but did not predict when he would be able to complete the highly anticipated novel.

"Every time I do this (publish an approximate completion date), Internet assholes take it as a 'promise' and eagerly wait to crucify me when I miss the deadline," Martin wrote. "All I can say is, I'm hopeful."
