God of War and Horizon to follow The Last of Us formula

The producers of "God of War" and "Horizon" said that the production method of these two series will be the same as "The Last of Us".

For many years, the number of successful video game adaptations has been low, due to the fact that video games are long, have a lot of content, and are different from other media due to their interactivity. Movies are usually the first choice for game adaptations, but after many failed attempts, TV series have become a more suitable choice for these adaptations.

With the success of The Last of Us, many people realized that it was possible to faithfully adapt a video game for another medium. While The Last of Us wasn't the first successful video game adaptation, it was arguably the first to tell the game's story in its entirety without making too many compromises.

PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash noted on the Official PlayStation Podcast that this was important to preserve when adapting other PlayStation games. Amazon and Netflix are developing series for God of War and Horizon, respectively, which look like they'll stick very closely to the Last of Us model.

"The same care and model that we put into The Last of Us, we're going to apply to Horizon and God of War," Qizilbash said. "We're going to tell the story of the games because we can, because it's a TV show, we have the time to do it, we have enough episodes to do it. We're not trying to cram it into a two-hour movie.

You’re going to get the story of the game, but we’re also going to find opportunities to explore other characters more broadly and do more things that you couldn’t do in the game because of agency. That’s an exciting thing for me, and the fans are going to love it because they’re going to see this game come to life and a lot of new things like they did in The Last of Us.”
