According to foreign media Variety, "Wonder Woman 1984" once again earned $5.5 million in box office revenue in the United States during the New Year holiday. The sequel also earned $10.1 million in box office revenue from film markets outside the United States, bringing its global total box office to $118.5 million.

Wonder Woman is undoubtedly an iconic comic book character, but the film's lackluster box office performance is not surprising given the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the film industry. However, Variety said the film's domestic box office fell sharply last weekend, indicating that fan interest is fading, which is far from the box office returns of such blockbusters before the pandemic.

"Wonder Woman 1984" was released in theaters while also being broadcast on HBO Max streaming media. Variety pointed out that the film's budget was around $200 million. HBO would be better off increasing the number of user subscriptions to make up for the tens of millions of box office revenue lost due to the epidemic.

The Croods 2, co-produced by Universal Pictures and DreamWorks, grossed $2.2 million in the United States in its sixth week, bringing its domestic box office to $34.5 million and its global total to nearly $115 million. The video game adaptation "Monster Hunter" grossed $1.2 million in the United States last weekend, bringing its total domestic box office to $6.3 million.

In addition to being broadcast on Disney+ streaming, Pixar's new animated film "Soul" was also released in theaters in China, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and other places. It earned $16.5 million in the second weekend after its release, and the cumulative box office of the film reached $32.5 million.
