"Monster Hunter" live-action movie IGN 3 points: One of the worst movies of the year

The live-action movie "Monster Hunter" was released in the United States on the 18th of this month. IGN gave the film a score of 3, calling it one of the worst movies of the year.

IGN said that the live-action "Monster Hunter" movie from Paul Anderson, the director of the "Resident Evil" series, is one of the worst movies of the year. The "Monster Hunter" movie is only an hour and a half, but due to its bland, winding plot, lack of a core focus and no meaningful world building, it feels like it is tortured twice as long.

Obviously, with any movie like this, there's a sense of franchise hope built into it, especially with a game series this successful and long-lived. But to openly discuss a sequel when it's so emotionally and intellectually unsatisfying is a travesty. It's certainly not another Sonic the Hedgehog.

The live-action movie "Monster Hunter" only scored 40 points on MTC, and other media ratings are as follows:

The Globe and Mail: 7.5

Monster Hunter is a movie that’s all about super-silly fun. Its middle drags a bit, but Anderson and his wife are on hand to prove that their long-running Resident Evil franchise was no fluke: The couple knows how to turn the most trivial video games into self-aware cinematic absurdities.

AV Club: 6.7

Variety: 6

Hollywood Reporter: 4

Roger Ebert: 3.8

The Wrap: 3.5

Los Angeles Times: 3

For two-thirds of its running time, Monster Hunter feels like an attempt to answer a question no one has ever asked: What would a Jurassic Park movie be like without all the spectacle? There are some truly spectacular images toward the end of the film, but even its best scenes can’t make up for a boring first hour.

Screen Rant: 2

IndieWire: 1.6

Fans of the series will feel cheated by such a slick, nonchalant attitude toward something they love, while the rest of us will wonder how the film will ever win fans for itself in the first place?
