Netflix announces prequel to The Witcher set 1,200 years ago

Have you ever wondered how the first demon hunter came into being? Netflix has just announced a six-episode prequel to The Witcher, The Witcher: Blood Origin, which takes place 1,200 years before The Witcher.

The Witcher: Bloodlines is created by The Witcher producers Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and Declan de Barra, and The Witcher novel author Andrzej Sapkowski serves as producer and creative consultant.

Episode Description:

“Set in the Elven world 1,200 years before the Wizarding World, Bloodlines tells a story lost in time: the origins of the first wizards, and the events leading up to the crucial ‘Meeting of Worlds’ that caused the worlds of monsters, humans and elves to merge into one.”

The Witcher: Bloodlines will take place 1,200 years before the events of The Witcher, when the Conjunction of the Spheres occurred, a cataclysm that caused all monsters and magic to leak out into the world. The story is mainly about the elf world before those pesky humans showed up and started destroying everything.

Based on the show's description, it seems that the timeline has been altered, as the world intersection described in the books takes place 1,500 years before Geralt's story.
