In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Henry Cavill talked about some behind-the-scenes stories of his role in Netflix's "The Witcher" series. In addition to going to the gym to stay in shape, Superman has his own little tricks on how to restore Geralt's image, such as "taking a bath" in a puddle. Cavill opted not to wear a wig to distinguish him from the game version of Geralt, saying the silver curls were "very important to the character," which seemed to cause a little trouble for the costume department. “Jacqui Rathore, who was in charge of the wig, had nightmares about it,” Cavill said. “I think she had three wigs in total, and she would bring them home every night and put more and more work into them. Fortunately, this wig was also made during the reshoots of the first episode.” In the end, the wig looked more grey than white, and was lit to "shine like moonlight." Making Geralt look dirty and weathered was important to Cavill because he wanted to make sure his Geralt truly belonged in this world. "At the end of the day, the crew was kind of intimidated by me," Cavill said. "Before every take, I'd look at myself and say, 'I need to be a little dirtier,' and they'd take these little things — which looked like leggings rolled up into a ball with dirt in it — and slap them on me. And I'd be like, 'Yeah, guys, that's it, but it's not enough,' so I'd stand outside in the rain for a while, and sometimes I'd roll in a puddle." Geralt's glasses were scratched by volcanic ash during filming. In terms of the character's voice, Cavill was influenced by Doug Cockle, who dubbed the game, and tried to speak as little as possible. He hoped that this would show Geralt's wisdom: "As far as we are concerned, he is already an old man." |
