The film is produced by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation. The first concept map was exposed in February 2022, and it was announced that it would be released on April 12, 2024. At the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the first stills of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rohirrim War" were released, and it was announced that it would be postponed to December 13, 2024, and released by Warner Bros. in theaters around the world.

It is understood that the background of "The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim" is the Kingdom of Rohan in Middle-earth 183 years before the timeline of the original "Lord of the Rings".
