Disney's former CEO may regain leadership power or reduce the size of the company

According to a report by the New York Times, former Disney CEO Bob Iger has taken over the leadership of Disney again and reorganized the business during the crisis of the epidemic. But this does not affect Bob Chapek's current title of CEO.

Bob Iger's tenure as CEO has been extended four times since 2013 and officially ended on February 25 of this year, ending 15 years of leadership.

At the end of January, the coronavirus had spread and forced Shanghai Disneyland to shut down. However, Iger and the board of directors insisted on following the original plan at the time: stepping back as executive chairman to ensure that his successor, Bob Chapek, would take over smoothly.

Now, a few weeks after Chapek took office, Iger began to take over the company again. Iger believes that the outbreak will bring about huge changes to Disney. He described to his colleagues a post-epidemic Disney with fewer employees and committed to becoming a leading force in the field of "safe collective entertainment" full of uncertainty.

Iger also told colleagues that this moment was also an opportunity to look across the industry and permanently change the way it operates.

Iger said he hopes to use this opportunity to end expensive, inefficient, outdated practices such as holding ad negotiation weeks and creating pilot episodes for shows that will never be aired.

Affected by the epidemic, Disney theme parks around the world were forced to close. Officials announced last Sunday that 43,000 employees at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, will be forced to take leave. They will retain basic benefits, but will no longer receive salary after April 19.

At present, the date when Disney can reopen is still unclear, but Bob Iger has already made some ideas about new measures after reopening in an interview with the media a few days ago. He said that the temperature detection process may be added, which will make people who venture out feel safer.
